The philosophy of the historical entry of the founding member Adolf Rybizka on 3 January 1901 still holds true today: “Charmed by nature, thrilled by sport, imbued with the necessity to create a modest meeting point in the Arlberg for friends of this noble pleasure, these ex-tempore excursionists felt moved to found the Arlberg ski club”.
Top athletes and celebrities
The strongest ski club in Europe in terms of membership, with 7900 members from 61 nations, forges world champions and Olympic medal winners and provides valuable inspiration for the Alpine ski sport and tourism on the Arlberg. Ski pioneers such as Hannes Schneider or the Olympic legends Trude Jochum-Beiser, Othmar Schneider, Egon Zimmermann, Edith Zimmermann, Patrick Ortlieb, Karl Schranz and Mario Matt or celebrities such as Princess Caroline of Monaco number and numbered among the members of the Arlberg ski club. Over a period of 110 years, the Arlberg Ski Club has produced numerous top athletes and served as the co-founder of the Tyrolean, German and Austrian Ski Association. The excellent promotion of young talent of the Arlberg ski school is yielding more and more promising ski talent. World champions are made here.
Round tables in the five municipalities
Three years after the Arlberg ski club was founded, the first general ski race was carried out in the face of considerable public interest. In 1928, the Arlberg ski club held the first Arlberg–Kandahar race, which is not only run in Arlberg today but also in other Alpine resorts as a worldcup race. The Arlberg ski club is the largest ski club in Europe and one of the traditional in the world. Membership is an honor for local skiing enthusiasts as well as visitors to the Arlberg region. If you would like to become a member, you must pass through an admissions process with the locals; if you are selected as a member, this will take solemnized in a formal ceremony at a round table. The round tables are generally held in the Arlberg municipalities of St. Christoph, St. Anton, Zürs, Lech und Stuben.
