Climbing in Stuben

Paradise for sport climbers

Climbing routes, climbing gardens and halls for mountain enthusiasts

The Arlberg is an ideal address for enthusiastic sport climbers - and anyone who wants to become one. From Stuben am Arlberg as a starting point, mountain and climbing experiences can be completed at various levels of difficulty. The Arlberg is surrounded by beautiful alpine pastures and lush meadows, but is also embedded in a rugged mountain world. Climbing courses and mountain guides make this accessible and impart the necessary knowledge and technique. The mountain sports schools also introduce beginners to the fascination of climbing.

The steep rock and the indescribable summit experience attract not only advanced climbers and professionals, but also children and beginners who want to learn this exciting sport in the various climbing gardens under the guidance of experienced mountain guides and climbing guides from the mountaineering schools.

The Arlberg via ferrata - from Bregenz or Landeck to St. Anton am Arlberg.

Access: Ascent with the Galzigbahn, then with the Vallugabahn to the Vallugagrat station (2646 m). From the cable car, descend east to the Mattunjoch (2543 m) (marked; beware of old snowfields). From the pass (signpost) follow the markings to the start (signpost) below the first tower. Alternatively, you can ascend from the Arlbergpass via the Ulmer Hütte to the Mattunjoch - but this approach is very long.

The descent:
Descend from the summit on the ridge, descend a steep section and continue to follow the insurance until you reach a break-off. From there, descend steeply to a scree field and follow the markings down to another secured section. You reach the end of the climb via an insured rock ledge and reach the path via the scree slope. Follow the markings to the Kapallbahn mountain station or back to the Valluga cable car via the Mattunjoch. Due to the length of the ascent, you should ensure stable weather conditions as you are always on the exposed ridge. The total time from the pass is 9 hours.
