The Arlberg Klettersteig – from Bregenz or Landeck to St. Anton am Arlberg.
Climb: Ascent with the Galzigbahn cable car, then take the Vallugabahn cable car to the Vallugagrat Station (2646 m) From the gondola east to Mattunjoch (2543 m) get out (is marked; caution in old snow fields). From Joch (information sign) follow the markings to the start (sign) below the first tower. Alternatively, you can ascend from the Alberg Pass via the Ulmer Hut to Mattunjoch – however, this climb is very long.
Descent:
From the summit of the arête down, descend a steep section and then continue to follow the security markers to a slope. Then it drops steeply to a debris field where you follow the markings to a further secured section. You will progress over a secured rock face to the end of the climb, and reach the trail over the landfill. There follow the markings to the mountain station of the Kapallbahn cable car or back via Mattunjoch to the Vallugabahn cable car. Due to the length of the climb, you should only undertake it during stable weather conditions as you are always moving on the exposed ridge. From the pass, it takes a total of 9 hours.
