Before you head down the winding streets through Heidi's home, the quaint town of Altstätten is great for a short break. South of St. Gallen, the attractive hilly landscape leads up to the Chräzeren Pass. The highlights of this route include wonderful inclines and incredible views of the highest mountain in eastern Switzerland, the 2,501-meter-high Säntis.
A detour to the Schwägalp Pass is a must, as the alpine restaurant there is one of the best-known meeting places for motorcycle buffs in Switzerland.
On the drive back to Stuben, both Appenzell and especially Feldkirch with its castle Schattenburg are worth a visit.
