Motorcycling around Stuben

Freedom on 2 wheels in the middle of the mountains

Stubai Alps & South Tyrol

Kilometers: 426 | Difficulty: Medium to Challenging | Kurviger Tour-code: 20stuben08

Just behind Landeck lies the small municipality of Fließ, which serves as the starting point for an exciting adventure through little roads. The route begins by going across the Pillerhöhe and then down to the Pitztal. You'll definitely want to stop at "Gacher Blick" and take a little stroll to the observation deck. You can also take an educational break at the Naturparkhaus Kaunergrat and visit an exhibition.

Once you have arrived in Pitztal, you continue on some lesser known but all the more charming little roads towards the Ötztal. After you have reached the Timmelsjoch Pass feeder road, you can begin your lap around the Stubai Alps.

Before this exciting tour, which boasts one curve after the next, takes you to Italy, you'll want to be sure and visit the Crosspoint motorcycle museum at the top of the Timmelsjoch Pass. Europe's highest motorcycle museum will not only impress you with its incredible exhibition, but also offers a dining atmosphere that turns a meal among antique motorcycles and stylishly interspersed accessories into a real experience.

From the Timmelsjoch Pass, which is called Passo del Rombo after you cross the border, the winding road takes you to St. Leonhard. The route then leads further uphill straight away, where the Jaufen Pass, another classic stretch, allows bikers to test their skills on its pleasurable curves.

After mastering this leg of the journey, you can stretch your legs and relax in Sterzing. Stroll through the pedestrian zone and enjoy the South Tyrolean flair before heading back towards Austria along the old Brennerstraße. Just before Innsbruck, follow the signs towards Kühtaisattel. Here, you can celebrate conquering yet another 2,000-meter pass by loading up on calories on the Dorfalm sun terrace. Once you have recharged your batteries, you can head back to Stuben. Or are you in the mood for a special treat? In that case, here's another tip for you:

The Kaunertal Glacier Road is one of the most beautiful high mountain roads in the alps. Offering 29 hairpin turns that lead up to an altitude of 2,750 meters, this stretch of road is simply impressive. The view from the curves down to Gepatsch Reservoir is fascinating every time.
