125 YEARS OF FLEXEN ROAD

1897 - 2022

An open-air exhibition in Stuben am Arlberg

In the most glorious sunshine, at half past 12 midday at the height of the pass, the Flexen Road was opened by the governor [...].

Vorarlberger Volksblatt, 12 October 1897

The first section of the Flexen Road was opened 125 years ago on 11 October, 1897. An exhibition in Stuben am Arlberg was created in recognition of this anniversary. The exhibition conveys information on the history of the region virtually and is linked to a cultural hiking trail. The opening of the Flexen Road and its further extension to the Lech Valley were undoubtedly important milestones in the development of tourism in the Arlberg region.

The exhibition explores the history of the traffic routes in the Flexen Pass area as well as important developments in the history of the Flexen Road. Important personages who contributed to the success of the construction project are acknowledged and honoured throughout the exhibition.

The exhibition can be seen in the center of Stuben during the winter months.
