Post hostess Fanny Fritz

People & Stories

The Ulm section entrusted postmistress Fanny Fritz with the management of the Ulm hut, and right up until her death in 1953 she remained an intrinsic part of the mountain and ski history of the Arlberg; in fact, she was the mother of Arlberg skiing in the truest sense of the word, known to thousands of skiers, the epitome of the motherly, caring hostess at the “Post” in Stuben (and at the Ulm hut).
Walther Flaig (1956)

In a place always intended as a warm refuge for travelers making their way over the Arlberg Pass, the tradition of hospitality goes back a long way. Countless people have been warmly welcomed over the course of centuries. For a long time during the 20th century, this hospitality was embodied by the legendary postmistress Fanny Fritz (1874-1953), whose name was known far beyond the region and who is shown with her two St. Bernhards.
