On the pilgrimage route through the mountain region
Stuben has served as a rest and refreshment stop before the Arlberg pass since time immemorial. Hikers on the Way of St. James also pass through the hospitable village of Stuben. Coming from Landeck past St. Anton am Arlberg, you reach St. Christoph. The Arlberg Hospice, founded in 1386 by Heinrich Findelkind to provide protection and accommodation for travelers in need, rises up there. It is still the seat of the Brotherhood of St. Christoph to this day and still offers accommodation to pilgrims today.
From the parking lot in St. Christoph, pilgrims can reach the historic Arlbergweg trail over the pass, which leads to Alpe Rauz and from there via the Rauzbach stream to Stuben. Here you can buy supplies in the small village store. From Stuben, a charming footpath leads to Passürtobel, from where you can reach Langen on the abandoned main road. Once the railroad has been relocated to the new Grosstobel tunnel, you can follow the old railroad line from Langen to Klösterle. Here you have a magnificent view of the 2,244 m high local mountain "Burtschakopf" opposite you.
The Johanniter hospice, which was founded in 1218 by Count Hugo I von Montfort, was once run in Klösterle. The village and the valley are named after this medieval "Clösterlin", today's Klostertal. Surrounded by the Lechtal Alps and the Verwall Mountains, a varied landscape awaits you, especially the contrast of the valley sides.
After refreshments in our pilgrim-friendly accommodation, you can follow the Sonnenweg trail along the serpentines onto the old railroad line, where you can enjoy the last view of the Arlberg massif before continuing towards Bludenz.
